Personally Designed Teaching Resources

Once upon a time I went for school for design. Although I love teaching, every once and a while I need to express my creative side. I do this by making cute, colorful and useful classroom resources to share with my teammates. The Editing Tool Kit is one example.  This is resource is designed to help middle schoolers edit and revise their writing. It can be used a scaffolding tool to help students take ownership of the editing process.

Editing Tool Kit

Middle School English

Not only is poetry beautiful, it's a powerful tool for students to express themselves. Unfortunately it's often left out of the curriculum due to time constraints. This resource was designed to give students a short, but intensive introduction to 5 unique types of poetry. Teens are at a special time in their lives. New thoughts, feelings and emotions are bursting though their pores.  This resource is designed to give students a vehicle for creative self-expression.

Conferring Kit

Writer's Workshop Resource (K-8)

Time. Teachers never seem to have enough time. The purpose of this kit is to provide targeted strategies for teachers to use during Writers' Workshop conferences. Instead of finding, making and creating resources for each conference, this kit contains hundreds of teaching points to support students from K-8. Each page focuses on different writing goal and provides discussion prompts. No need to search Pinterest, everything you need to effectively conference is right here.

Word Sort List & Activities

Word Jouney Resources (K-5)

Remember when I mentioned time? Here is another resource dedicated to saving teachers' time. Compiling words sorts takes hours on end. In an attempt to help my colleagues and put my design skills to use, I created printable lists of word sorts for Word Journeys. I also created a companion guide with 13 different sort activities for student use. Click on the link below to see some examples.

Science Unit Resources

Grades 2 - 4

Most of the resources I've created are for the Language Arts curriculum because I consider it an area of my expertise.  There are so many opportunities to inspire and engage students though. I find that many students love science because it's hand-on. Doing an experiment, making a hypothesis and collaborating with peers, what's not to love? Here are a series of experiences students can complete with their peers. Just print out the directions, provide students the materials and watch the magic happen. I've tried this with second and fourth grade with great results. This unit gives students the chance to work with their peers and take ownership of their learning.

ESOL Supplemental Text

Begginer Level English

This resource is quite old and beginning to look outdated, but it is near and dear to my heart. I created it when I worked in a Korean public school with nothing but an idea and MS Word. I realized the students needed a place outside their textbook to record and reflect upon their learning. Countless months later, "My Mini-Dictionary" was born. It is the first piece I've published my work and the first time I realized how I can combine my passion for design and education to make a difference in students' lives.
